China has agreed to send aid to Nigeria as the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire calls for the assistance of the rapidly healing country.
The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire has called on the assistance of China in the fight against the Convid-19 as cases continue to increase daily. Following a visit to the Ministry in Abuja, Chinese Ambassador, Zhou Pingjian agreed that Nigeria is in dire need of technical support to win the battle against the pandemic.
Ehanire commended the Chinese government on its rapid response system in putting measures in place to combat the virus and therefore returning the country to its normal self as businesses and organisations have been allowed to reopen. Ehanire added that Nigeria will take the cue of China by setting same measures to control the virus.
In addition to the public health experts Ehanire requested for in order to help Nigeria review its strategies, he also asked for China’s aide in mobility for contact Tracing, ventilators, testing kits and Personal Protective Equipments (PPE). He further added that Nigeria would like to learn from the Chinese government on how they were able to put in place unprecedented containment and social distancing measures.
Zhou Pingjian said that China would not forget the sympathy and support extended by Nigeria when the Chinese people were in the most challenging phase of battling the Convid-19 pandemic. He expressed the confidence the Chinese government has in Nigeria’s determination and capacity to ultimately defeat the virus and as such would try its best to provide medical supplies and other forms of support to Nigeria.
He further advocated for Nigerians to continue to treat the Chinese national in the country as their brothers and sisters especially in the face of recent hardships.
In his words, ““Virus respect no borders. In the face of public health emergencies, common challenge humanity, the most powerful weapon we have is solidarity and cooperation. To protect the health and well being of the Nigerian people and actually all the people living in Nigeria, the authorities have been working assiduously on the epidemic response in a science-based, rational and professional way from day one. China will continue to share information and experience with Nigeria, and strengthen cooperation on containment, treatment and vaccines in response to the COVID-19 challenge, with a view to building together a community of shared health for mankind.”
During his visit to the Ministry in Abuja, Zhou Pingjian donated medical supplies and equipment including, gloves, N-95 masks, surgical masks, shoe covers, headcovers, clinical digital thermometer, handheld non-contact infrared thermometer, sanitizers with dospenser stands and refills, Chlorine disinfectant bleach, disposable surgical gowns, white safety boots, liquid hand wash, couch rolls, tyvek suits, googles, laptops, desktops, printers, copiers and scanning machines.
Hopefully, these equipment and strategies will see to the end of this horrid pandemic, just as China has seen.
